Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Bitwise LLC (“we”, “us”), the maker of CantoGo. By downloading or using CantoGo, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.
1. Using CantoGo
CantoGo helps you learn to speak Hong Kong Cantonese. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own learning and not for commercial use. You must be at least 13 years old to use CantoGo. If you’re under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
2. Your account
We create an account for you when you start the app, so your progress is saved. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or an email and password. Keep your sign-in details safe: you’re responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete your account at any time (see Delete your account).
3. CantoGo Pro, subscriptions and free trials
- Some of CantoGo is free. CantoGo Pro unlocks the rest, as a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country.
- New subscribers may be offered a free trial (currently 3 days). Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you’re charged at the end of the trial.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase (or when the free trial ends).
- Subscriptions renew automatically for the same length and price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device’s Settings (App Store) or in the Google Play Store. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Deleting your CantoGo account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it with Apple or Google as well.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. If you reinstall CantoGo or change phones, tap “Restore Purchases” in the app’s Settings to get your subscription back.
- If we change a subscription’s price, Apple or Google will tell you before it applies.
4. Voice features and AI
CantoGo uses voice AI. The voice you hear is an AI voice. When you practise speaking, your recording is sent to our server and to our speech recognition providers to be scored, as described in our Privacy Policy. Scoring is automatic and can be wrong. It’s a guide to help you practise, not an assessment or certification of your Cantonese. To keep the service running for everyone, there is a daily limit on scored attempts.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- copy, sell, rent or redistribute the app or its content;
- reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
- interfere with the app or its servers, or get around its limits or security;
- use automated means to access the app or its scoring;
- use the app to break the law or anyone’s rights.
6. Our content
CantoGo, including its lessons, words, recordings, illustrations, the Rammy character and our name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by law. These terms don’t give you any rights to it beyond using the app.
7. Third-party services
CantoGo relies on services from other companies, such as Apple, Google and the providers listed in our Privacy Policy. Their own terms apply to your use of them.
8. Changes and availability
We may update, change or remove features or content, and the app may sometimes be unavailable. We may update these terms. If the changes are significant, we’ll let you know in the app. Continuing to use CantoGo after a change means you accept the new terms.
9. Ending these terms
You can stop using CantoGo and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Sections 6, 10 and 11 continue after these terms end.
10. Disclaimer
CantoGo is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, that its content or scoring will be accurate, or that it will meet your needs.
11. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of CantoGo. Our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to the amount you paid us for CantoGo in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be excluded.
12. If you got CantoGo from the App Store
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of CantoGo on Apple devices; where it conflicts with these terms, these terms apply to the extent Apple’s agreement allows. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for CantoGo, and isn’t responsible for handling any claims about it, including product liability, legal or regulatory claims, or claims that it infringes someone’s intellectual property. If CantoGo fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you’re not in a country under a U.S. Government embargo or on a U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
